What the back cover says:
Instead I’m stuck with the worst name since Mrs Face called her son Bum.
Weir Do’s the new kid in school. With an unforgettable name, a crazy family and some seriously weird habits, fitting in won’t be easy… But it will be funny!
In Weir Do: Extra Weird, (the third book in the series) Weir’s back and extra weird!
Dad’s working on his cool dance moves for the local talent quest, while Weir’s trying out for the school soccer team! Will Weir score a spot, or fall flat? It won’t be easy… but it will be funny!
What I say:
I’m just going to come out and say it. Most ‘readers’ and chapter-books for this age group are flat-out BORING!
That’s why the Weir Do series is such a breath of fresh air. It’s almost a hybrid of comic book and reader to which Anh Do brings his trademark brand of irreverent humour.
The text is simple and sufficiently minimal enough to allow emerging readers to cope on their own. The illustrations are large, plentiful and funny and give the book its ‘comic’ feel.
My six year old read this on her own in a single sitting, and killed herself laughing in the process. I can think of no better endorsement.
